Happy 10th year anniversary Griffin Poetry Prize. Chin Chin.
For the last decade, LizMars Productions has produced the documentation
of the Griffin Poetry shortlisted readings and awards for The Griffin Trust.
Liz spearheaded The Real G8/G20: A Civil Society Response website in response to the mainstream media coverage of the G20 protests. Mainstream media failed to report the real issues that motivated thousands of people to protest the G20 Summit in Toronto. The website is a content-rich forum for citizen media: video, film, photography and editorial works by artists, activists, social justice organizations and independent media.
LizMars produced a 20-minute documentary for NDEAM Canada.
Directed by Andrea Cohen, edited by Nathan Shields, shot by Jeremy Lyall and Alex Oktan, production managed by Chanda Chevannes, with an original score by New Moon Music: Jennifer Moore & Mark Shannon.
The documentary will help launch the national campaign
to make October National Disability Employment Awareness Month.

Liz Marshall’s film The Weight of Memory (2001) features acclaimed dancer and choreographer Peggy Baker. It is a dramatic experimental dance film that commemorates the 14 women killed in the Montreal Massacre in 1989. Liz’s short music film Mawal Saba(2007) is an Arabic lament featuring Egyptian chanteuse Maryem Tollar. Both films will be screened at a Female Eye Film Festival event in memory of the December 6th, 1989 Montreal Massacre.

Maryem Tollar’s music video, Mawal Saba, directed by Liz Marshall, will be airing on an upcoming special episode of “Bravo!FACT Presents” celebrating the Juno Awards at 7:30 pm ET/4:30 pm PT, Sunday, March 22, 2009 on Bravo!
The episode will be rerun at 8:00 pm ET/5:00 pm PT Friday, March 27 on Bravo! It will also air on ‘A’ in Victoria BC on Saturday, March 28 at 11:00 pm local time, and in Ontario on ‘A’ in Barrie, London, Windsor, and Wingham on Saturday, March 28 at 6:30 pm local time. As part of Black History month, two of Liz Marshall’s films for the Stephen Lewis Foundation will premier at Library and Archives Canada in Ottawa on February 13, 2008. A Generation of Orphans follows six orphans in Africa and the grassroots organizations working valiantly on their behalf, while Women: The Face of AIDS traces the stories of five courageous HIV-positive women in sub-Saharan Africa. Women: The Face of AIDS premiered in Vancouver on October 18, 2007 at the Ridge Theatre.
